William Allen Jones, Jr.
Interim Chief Financial Officer
As the Interim Chief Financial Officer and Controller at Southeastern Universities Research Association (SURA), William Jones brings over 25 years of extensive financial expertise to the organization. In his current role, Mr. Jones is entrusted with the oversight of the company’s day-to-day accounting and finance operations, encompassing high-level financial reporting and analysis, government and non-profit accounting, budget preparation, cash flow management, debt management, and ensuring compliance with statutory laws and financial regulations. His responsibilities also include overseeing Government Single audits, GAAP Financial audits, ERISA audits, tax, and payroll processing.
Before joining SURA, Mr. Jones served as the Director of Finance at the Global Business Travel Association (GBTA), where he played a pivotal role in foreign currency transactions and the preparation and consolidation of foreign-to-U.S. financial statements. His prior experience as Senior Accounting Manager at Billy Casper Golf involved overseeing financial statement preparation, consolidations, and audits for more than 250 municipal and private golf courses across the United States.
Mr. Jones commenced his career in public accounting as an audit intern with Arthur Andersen, and later as a tax accountant with Argy Wiltse and Robinson, where he specialized in preparing large corporate and non-profit tax returns. His managerial accounting experience includes roles with several not-for-profit entities.
Mr. Jones is an active CPA licensed in the Commonwealth of Virginia and holds memberships with prestigious organizations such as The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), The Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants (VSCPA), and The National Society of Black Certified Public Accountants (NSBCPA).
He earned an MBA in Accounting from Liberty University, a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree in Accounting from James Madison University, and an Associates in Applied Arts Degree in Classical Piano from Northern Virginia Community College.
Beyond his financial acumen, Mr. Jones is an accomplished area pianist who routinely performs at military functions, state government events, local churches, and nursing homes. His passion for classical piano is reflected in his pursuit of an Associates in Applied Arts Degree from Northern Virginia Community College.
