Elizabeth L. Lawson
Chief of Laboratory Operations
Elizabeth Lawson is the Chief of Laboratory Operations. She serves also as the JSA Board Liaison and Secretary, and as the Assistant Secretary of ILCAC and NSHP, SURA’s sponsored organizations.
She is responsible for formulating protocols and instituting systems to support the governance structures of SURA and JSA, advising the Boards on governance matters; acting as a liaison between the SURA and JSA boards and management; and, ongoing assessment of governance strategies and implementation of best practices. Ms. Lawson supports the JSA Board in its oversight of the management of the business and affairs of JSA, the M&O contractor for the Department of Energy’s Jefferson Lab.
Ms. Lawson also oversees the management and operations of the SURA Residence Facility, a 42-room guest house on the Jefferson Lab campus.
After a decade with the City of Newport News in the Library and Information Services Department where she was a member of the team that implemented the public library’s first automated system, she joined the Continuous Electron Beam Accelerator Facility (CEBAF), now Jefferson Lab, in 1985. Prior to joining the SURA corporate staff in early 1999, her experience at the Lab included administrative and management roles in human resources, procurement and contracting, and administrative services. She was an administrative officer to the Laboratory Director and to the Associate Director for Administration.
Ms. Lawson received the Secretary of the Department of Energy’s Gold Award for work on the DOE Quality Council and received the Secretary’s award for distinguished service as a founding member of the DOE Quality Awards Program.
Ms. Lawson is an interdisciplinary studies undergraduate of Christopher Newport College and is a Masters in Public Administration honors graduate from The George Washington University. She also holds a masters certificate in Government Contracting from the GWU School of Government and Business Administration.
