Program Administrative Assistant

Under the day-to-day supervision of the CRESST II Projects Manager, the Program Administrative Assistant coordinates the delivery and tracking of program activities and resources, including program transactions, records, files, and databases; performs a variety of general program support and reporting functions, including responding to inquiries and collecting, assembling, and distributing information; produces internal and external communication materials including formatting, proofreading, copying, packaging, and distributing. Full COVID-19 vaccination is required. Accommodations due to medical or religious reasons will be accepted.

Jefferson Lab

The Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility is managed by Jefferson Science Associates, LLC, a wholly-owned subsidiary of SURA, for the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Science. It is a national laboratory and world-leading nuclear science research center. Scientists worldwide utilize the lab’s unique particle accelerator, known as the Continuous Electron Beam Accelerator Facility (CEBAF). Faculty, post-doctoral scholars, and students from SURA member and non-member universities perform advanced research through collaborative projects and sabbaticals.

CRESST II

Through a ten-year partnership between NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center and SURA member universities, the Center for Research and Exploration in Space Science & Technology II (CRESST II) facilitates collaborations among researchers at GSFC, space scientists from CRESST II partner institutions, and the external science community through visiting and sabbatical research positions, student internships, and workshops. Scientists and engineers with expertise in astronomy, astrophysics, geology, and chemistry have short- and long-term opportunities here. Observational, experimental, and theoretical research in support of GFSC’s Sciences and Exploration Directorate is conducted, including the study of the solar system, stars, galaxies, and the universe at large.

Support Scientist in the Imaging X-Ray Polarimetry Explorer (IXPE) Guest Observer Facility

The support scientist will be expected to become an expert user of IXPE, assist the user community on the best uses of IXPE, and be responsible for acquiring community proposals and organizing and managing the IXPE peer review once a year. Candidates for this position must have Ph.D. in physics, astronomy, or a related field, as well as a proven record conducting research in x-ray astrophysics or related discipline.

GESTAR II

Goddard Earth Sciences and Technology Research II (GESTAR II) is a three-year cooperative agreement that advances Earth science and the leadership of NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center by hiring future scientific leaders for short- and long-term research opportunities. SURA is the lead institution in recruiting and attracting visiting scientists and sabbatical researchers to facilitate NASA Goddard collaborations with the greater scientific community. Universities from inside and outside of SURA’s member network, ERT, and Northrup Grumman collaborate through GESTAR II.

Research Scientist position: Atmospheric Methane Modeler and Data Analyst

Applications are being accepted for an Atmospheric Methane Modeler and Data Analyst in the Atmospheric Chemistry and Dynamics Laboratory at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. Candidates for this position should have a PhD in Earth Sciences, Physics, Mathematics, Engineering, or related, and have at least 5 years experience with a strong preference for candidates with experience in methane modeling.

Postdoctoral position in Ocean Biology Data and Evaluation

Applications are being accepted for a postdoc to work in the Ocean Ecology Laboratory at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center.  The candidate will join the Ocean Biology Processing Group (OBPG) and focus on the development and evaluation of bio-optical algorithms for derivation of aquatic inherent optical properties (IOPs) from MODIS, VIIRS, OLCI, SGLI, and PACE. Candidates for this position must have a PhD in Oceanography, Physics, Mathematics, or a related field and have strong coding and data analysis skills working with various software packages.

Postdoctoral position in Data Assimilation and Remote Sensing

Applications are being accepted for a postdoc position with the Plankton, Aerosol, Cloud, ocean Ecosystem (PACE) mission. The postdoc will be to conduct theoretical research on the impact of PACE observations on GEOS aerosol forecasts. Candidates for this position must have a PhD in Atmospheric Sciences, Earth Sciences, Chemistry, Physics, or related field and have programming experience in Fortran, C++, and Python.

Postdoctoral position in Modeling and Data Analysis of Greenhouse Gases

Applications are being accepted for a postdoc position focused on using a combination of model simulations and satellite data to understand the drivers of recent changes in the atmospheric carbon dioxide. Candidates for this position must have a PhD in Earth Sciences, Physical Sciences, or a related field and have extensive, research-based knowledge of the carbon cycle, constituent data assimilation, global transport modeling and/or the use of space-based radiance observations.
