Geary Pyles
General Counsel
As General Counsel, Geary Pyles leads grants and contracts management at SURA. Mr. Pyles is a licensed attorney, bringing over 25 years of experience in federal contracts, grants, and project execution, including 15 years at the Department of Energy (DOE). He has worked on several multi-billion dollar programs in the energy and security sectors, and his expertise spans compliance, stakeholder engagement, and all phases of acquisition. As a seasoned expert in contracting and compliance, Mr. Pyles oversees SURA’s legal affairs and supports the development and administration of contracts and agreements.
Prior to joining SURA, Mr. Pyles supported the design and launch of 72 energy sector programs at DOE valued at $98 billion as Senior Advisor to the Deputy Undersecretary for Infrastructure. In this role, he led compliance efforts for the Davis-Bacon Act and National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), and developed guidance related to the Build America, Buy America Act as DOE’s nationwide coordinator. He served as Contracting Officer’s Representative for over 400 renewable energy projects across the U.S.
Mr. Pyles has led contracting efforts in both the public and private sector through the National Nuclear Security Administration, US Missile Defense Agency, U.S. Air Force, Northrop Grumman, and Energy Partner Solutions. His background also includes work with DOE national labs, including Savannah River National Laboratory, where led infrastructure efforts related to plutonium pit production, and Los Alamos National Laboratory.
Mr. Pyles received his BA from the University of Tennessee and his JD from the University of Kentucky. He has been a member of the State Bar of New Mexico since 2002 and is a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.
