SURA Membership

MEMBERSHIP

SURA fosters collaboration among its member universities to enhance their capabilities of undertaking significant, transformative scientific research projects that no single institution or small consortium can handle independently. We are driven to promote and support scientific discovery and education that pushes the frontiers of knowledge and impacts lives and communities, while supporting a public service model that keeps our nation’s best interests in mind and contributes to the greater good.

Annual Members Meeting

Each year, SURA member representatives come together to connect, learn, and discuss the future of research. The Annual Members Meeting is a unique opportunity for SURA members to congregate together and build relationships across institutions. These events are fertile ground for new ideas and projects spanning the university landscape.

Topical Workshop Series

SURA’s technical workshop series provides a platform for researchers to come together and identify the most critical research and education topics facing the nation. Working together, these groups — which span education, government, and industry — spotlight topics at the forefront of research and education, and identify ways for funding agencies to increase their impact in these areas.

Proposal Development and Project Execution

SURA was founded on bringing organizations together to respond to major proposal calls. This history of teaming has resulted in major advances for the nation and the members of SURA, from the construction and operation of the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility, a DOE national lab, to the creation of SURAnet, which provided university members network connectivity to high performance computing centers. The SURA team, with decades of proposal writing experience, provides support to manage, write and execute proposals for federal research opportunities ranging from hundreds of thousands to hundreds of millions of dollars in size.

Awards and Fellowships

SURA’s suite of awards and fellowships recognizes and promotes scientific excellence in the research disciplines represented in the SURA university network. Please check out our current awards programs here.
