Becoming a member of the Southeastern Universities Research Association (SURA) connects your institution or organization to a dynamic consortium dedicated to advancing collaborative research, innovation, and education across the region and the nation.

SURA membership opens the door to shared resources, strategic partnerships, and opportunities that help institutions achieve more together than they could alone.

How to Become a SURA Member

Select Your Membership Category

Choose the category that best describes your institution or organization. SURA offers three membership types:

• Institutional Membership
  For higher education and research institutions. Institutional Members participate fully in SURA governance and programs. Institutional Members have voting rights and may serve on the Board of Directors and SURA committees.

• Industry Membership
  For private-sector organizations (corporations and commercial entities) that wish to engage in SURA’s programs and initiatives. Industry Members participate fully in SURA governance and programs. Industry Members have voting rights and may serve on the Board of Directors and SURA committees.

• Affiliate Membership
  For nonprofit organizations or educational institutions that wish to participate in SURA activities on a more limited basis. Affiliate Members may engage in programmatic activities, attend annual meetings, and serve on special committees, but do not vote or serve in formal governance roles.

Designate a Member Representative

Each Institutional and Industry Member designates a Member Representative, either the organization’s President, Chancellor, or CEO; or his/her designee. The Member Representative acts on behalf of the member organization in SURA matters.

Application Review

Institutional and Industry applications are reviewed and approved by the SURA Board of Directors. Affiliate applications are reviewed and approved by the Chair of the SURA Board of Directors. The Corporate Secretary will notify you once your application for membership has been approved.
