GRADUATE FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM AT JLAB
First established by the SURA Board of Trustees in 1989, this program supports doctoral students at SURA member universities conducting research related to the theoretical and experimental programs at Jefferson Lab, including nuclear and related particle physics, accelerator physics, associated science and engineering, and theoretical physics program. Since program inception, over 260 fellowships have been awarded.
Eligible students must be enrolled full-time in a relevant doctoral program at a SURA member university. Awardees may not concurrently hold another major full-time fellowship or internship. Students may apply at any stage of their graduate careers or while undergraduate seniors. Awards are limited to two years and students seeking second-year support must resubmit a complete application.
Awardees are selected based on: merit and quality of proposed research; utility and relevance of proposed research to Jefferson Lab and proposed utilization of Lab resources; academic qualifications; letters of recommendation; and, likelihood of accomplishment of proposed research objectives by graduation.
Each fellowship is provided to the institution for the student’s research assistant stipend. Upon completion of the academic year, fellowship awardees are required to submit a report addressing the accomplishments achieved including results of the research undertaken, summaries of talks, lectures, etc. and references to publications based on the research.
